One of the most popular pieces of protective gear used by police officers is body armour. A few hundred attacks on police personnel occur annually. Numerous lives are saved by body armour. Additionally protecting police personnel in cases of auto accidents and other attacks is body armour.

Most of the body armour and helmets used by police enforcement are built to counter threats from handguns. Purchasing helmets for police is not as prevalent as purchasing body armour, yet both requirements must be satisfied. Law enforcement only buys a small amount of body armour with breast plates to protect against rifle shots.
